SALTO access control locks down ExCeL London
The UKs premier international conference and exhibition venue, ExCeL London is located on a 100-acre site on the northern quay of the Royal Victoria Dock in London Docklands, between Canary Wharf and London City Airport.
Its a huge site with thousands of doors and staff, contractors and visitors needing access to certain areas and levels, so controlling security and who is entitled to go where and when is crucial.
Originally fitted with mechanical locks and keys these proved to be something of a liability as the venue grew and its share of the international exhibition market increased. Greater staff numbers also led to an increasing number of control issues. To address these problems security was upgraded to a standalone electronic access control system from SALTO.
Will Bosworth from AFS Security, ExCeL Londons Preferred Security Partner and SALTOs Service Centre for the area, says Having taken the decision to upgrade security we have replaced mechanical and pin code locks with SALTO Comfort smartcard electronic locks. Weve installed these in the Main Boulevard, Management Suite, the Security Control Room, the Platinum Suite, Service Subways, IT Rooms, Gallery Rooms and Plant Rooms where they have greatly improved on-site security control.
Simple and quick to install these locks are specifically designed for use with internal and external doors. Each lock can support up to 64,000 users, more than enough for ExCeL Londons needs, and they also feature anti-vandal protection to safeguard their electronics, housed in the inner backplate, on the inside of the door.
ExCeL London says Linking our electronic locks to our computer network has bought much greater flexibility to our access control. SALTO gives us the all the benefits of a centrally controlled security system and absolutely meets all our needs for access control.
