San Mamés: the best sports building in the world and with the best access control solution
Monday 09 November 2015
San Mamés has been named the best sports building of the year at the 2015 World Architecture Festival recently held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
This prestigious architectural organization announced the awards in nine categories and which evaluates projects from around the world.
The Athletic Club of Bilbao stadium, otherwise known as San Mamés, was selected as winner in the sports category. This stadium has a capacity of 53,000 spectators, and was designed by architect César Azkarate with engineering work completed by ACXT-IDOM. Obviously in an installation of this size and importance, the security system was a top priority and SALTO Systems was selected as the preferred supplier, installing more than 200 locks throughout the installation.
The new stadium has been extremely well-received by fans and the city, and to add still further distinction to the famous San Mamés, a new VIP Area has recently been inaugurated in time for the Europa League games. This VIP area also features SALTO product, in this case the stylish design Ælement lock, was the most appropriate choice. Of course since these VIP area locks are also part of the same SALTO database, the facility managers at San Mamés can easily control the access rights of these areas along with the other areas of the stadium already secured by SALTO. And for the VIPs, the experience is similarly easy since no special card is needed in order to gain access to this selective space. Compared to the previous stadium's traditional mechanical key systems, Athetic Club now enjoys an efficient and flexible access control system in line with the Club's reputation for excellence.
